18/05/06, Gary Dimmock, RCMP officers in a union?
Post
The suit was settled in 2004.
In the sworn affidavit filed Wednesday, the constable said the women, including herself, met with RCMP Commissioner Guilliano Zaccardelli.
The commissioner was told in writing the women continued to suffer harassment even after they came forward.
Still, according to the constable's affidavit, "nothing satisfactory came out of that meeting" with Zaccardelli.
Laura Young, the lawyer representing the RCMP officers, said Wednesday: "It is time to shine the light of public scrutiny on the RCMP's labour relations practices."
"The members of the RCMP deserve the same protections as other police forces across the country," the lawyer told the Ottawa Citizen on Wednesday.
Every major police force in the country has a union.
In another case revealed in Wednesday's legal filing, one of the country's top anti-terrorism officers, Const. Pete Merrifield, was demoted after he expressed his political ambition -- namely that he wanted to run as a candidate in the last federal election.
In another case revealed by the affidavits, Nina Iwanowich, a commercial crime corporal in Toronto, detailed the times that Chief Supt. Benedetto Soave would touch women, including the day he allegedly grabbed her "ass".
